Can’t quite afford the flights to Spain for Benicassim? Don’t want to travel all the way to California for Coachella? Then why not opt for a lovely home-grown British festival this summer? Despite several of the bigger festivals being cancelled this year, you are spoiled for choice in the UK with thousands of new events cropping up each season. And it’s not just music; the UK boasts countless folk, comedy, art, beer and film festivals too. From the totally obscure, local events to the ever-growing, headline-whipping big boys, there is sure to be something to get you out and enjoying the outdoors, even if it is just the plastic pints and burger vans.

This year, the festivals that have survived are set to be bigger and better than ever, so to break things down for all you mud lovers we have a handy list of festival calendar dates, so you can plan your summer accordingly.

Festival Dates

Bestival 06/09/12 – 09/09/12

Some of the line-ups this season are phenomenal, making us at Trespass green with festival envy as we help you lot plan. With the likes of legend Stevie Wonder and Sigur Ros playing the Isle of Wight’s Bestival and Florence doing the rounds at a few of the big ones, it would be rude not to. While Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend is liberally scattered with chart-topping acts including R’n’B royalty RiRi and Jay-Z and local ginger Ed Sheeran. So best get planning!

Not interested in the queues, dirty loos and lack of personal spacing? For smaller scale revelling, some interesting options could be Itchycoo Park Festival, a 60s inspired, laid back event in Surrey or the underground electronic scene at Glade Festival in Winchester. Or why not go farm and family friendly with the alternative Farmfestival in Somerset?

Whatever festival you choose, you’ll need to dig out the wellies and festival gear, or buy some shiny new equipment if you aim to get the most out of your weekend. If you need a little helping hand with loading the rucksack, we have prepared an essential Festival Guide for you so you can check off all the bits and bobs you need to make it to Monday morning in the office with a grin on your face and not in a puddle with only glow sticks and a tutu to keep you warm.

Got any killer festivals lined up this year? Let us know which events are enticing you to brave the great British weather this summer…

We at Trespass have jumped on the social media express train once again and launched
our very own Google+ page. With the introduction of the Google+ iPhone app last week and the recent large-scale TV marketing campaign; it could just be the next big thing in the world of digital socialising.

We like it. Mostly to follow brands and see what everyone is doing, like Cadbury, who regularly post their scrummy looking chocolate sculptures and recipes. Or walkhighlands who post a different walk in Scotland every day.

We are just starting out, but hope it will become a cool place for like minded people, like yourselves, to interact and post anything and everything outdoors-y! So join our circles and populate our page with your thoughts, tips and photos…we’d love to hear from you.

Summer is nearly upon us, despite what the weather might think, and that means only one thing; time to hit the beach! Ok, so we don’t expect too many of you live in a Baywatch-style beach hut but wherever you are in the UK chances are you won’t have to travel too far to find the coast. So why not get out and explore the stunning shorelines GB has to offer?

This summer our favourite animal advocate, Ben Fogle, is fronting a beach clean-up campaign to keep our country’s beaches ‘barefoot friendly’ (however, if you dare not bare your tootsies, aqua shoes are increasingly popular beach attire). The Beach Rescue Project 2012 was launched earlier this month by Barefoot Wine and environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage and encourages volunteers to get out and help pick up litter to make the beaches pristine once more. The clean-ups are taking place in 14 locations around the country, click here to find one near you.

So with all the newly cleaned sand and litter-free beaches on offer best start by looking at the most desirable hot spots in Blighty. In Scotland there’s no shortage of options. From the long stretches on the East coast, to the white sands of the Hebrides, you can find an idyllic spot whatever you plan to do. For surfers, Thurso’s Dunnet Bay is a popular choice, while you could definitely fly a kite or two at St Andrews. All you need, then, is the weather. Good luck with that…

Down south you are spoiled for choice and the further south you go the more tropical the weather too. Cornwall and Devon have long since been tourist favourites, but why not opt for islands off the beaten track? The Isles of Scilly have some spectacular Caribbean-style beaches, with crystal clear blue-green water. Great for wildlife spotting, as well as water sports.

Wherever you choose to bury your toes in sand, be it at home or abroad, you’ll need some activities to keep the kid’s (and adults) occupied. Of course, the old classics are still a valid way to pass the time. Like the hours spent burying your family members up to their neck in sand, only for them to stand up and walk away, or the deluxe castle built dangerously close to the tide. However, for the more advanced beach reveller, we have a few alternatives…

1. Frisbee. A simple concept, all you need is a Frisbee and some participants. Although for the more competitive types, Ultimate turns a game of catch into a serious sport with end zones like American football. Sounds awesome!

2. Beach Rounders. You’ll need a bat and ball (soft ones are preferable) and a team of friends. Then you can relive your childhood game, or play baseball if you know the rules. Hours of energy-sapping fun!

3. Sand Boules. Pretty much the same as non-sand boules, but with a plastic set and you play it on a beach. Simples.

Beach toys could just be the life-saver you need this summer to escape the perils of boredom and/or tantrums.

Have you got any super ideas for beach games? Why not tell us your favourite childhood summer game, with or without beach versions below…

This year Trespass is traversing the globe.  As well as whizzing by on shiny new race cars all over Europe, you can now find our logo at the ends of the earth. Well as close as you can get; Antarctica.

In March, our Ukrainian distributor, Trans Ukraine Intersport, sponsored two groups of scientists who travelled to the southernmost continent for research purposes (Big Bang Theory-style).

The scientists were equipped head to toe in Trespass, benefitting from the warmth of down and 3-in-1 jackets, gilets and fleeces, as well as walking boots, Walker. Styles Igloo, Vale and Kazan also did the trick for the Ukrainians in seriously minus temperatures, so if you fancy a small trip to North or South Pole, then you know where to come!

Ukraine has been actively involved in various research projects in Antarctica since 1996, sending out numerous expeditions to Vernadsky, the Ukrainian Antarctic base on Galindez Island. The teams, from the National Antarctic Scientific Centre in Kiev, consisted of geophysicists, meteorologists and biologists and the purpose of these particular trips was scientific research in geophysics, ionospherics, biology, meteorology and seismology.

So next time you find yourself cursing the great British weather when a spattering of sleet comes a-knockin’, spare a thought for the solemn-faced Ukrainian scientists battling the fiercest conditions known to man all in the name of science…or go buy some Trespass gear!

This year, for the coming World Series by Renault, Trespass is supporting the new Formula Renault 3.5 car belonging to the P1 Motorsport Team. The team currently have two cars and drivers, namely Russian Daniil Move, who had a successful season in 2011 and is ranked 10th in overall driver’s standings and Austrian-born Walter Grubmuller who is placed 18th.

Move has high hopes for 2012, he said:

The FR 3.5 championship is very competitive, but we’ve made significant steps forward and with P1 in 2012, I’m definitely aiming for a top three championship position.

Not only will you be able to see our lovely Trespass logo on the nose, rear wing and top of the car, but the entire team have been kitted out in our artworked uniforms; from jackets, to quick dry t-shirts, baseball caps and lots more.

The competition starts in May, but the drivers have been busy with pre-season tests. Their most recent in the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, the site of the season finale in October.

If you love Motorsport and fancy watching the P1 Race Team in action then you can catch the races on the Eurosport TV channel or via the Eurosport Player online. We would like to wish the entire team good luck for the season; hopefully Trespass will keep them going further and get them plenty of podiums!

Trespass Cool BagsLunchtime. That sacred break from work, school, housework, exercise or whatever fills your days.  A time where you can reflect on the mornings’ doings and consider what the evening has in store.

We all relish the mid-point of the day, more so if a tasty lunch is on the cards, but with worrying reports of obesity epidemics constantly hitting our headlines, can we do anything to make it healthier?

One solution could point in the direction of the humble packed lunch. A favourite among school kids and businessmen alike, the packed lunch can come in many forms and, as you know exactly what’s in it, you won’t be misled on the calorie count. From a simple cling filmed sarnie in your briefcase to a full on three-course lunch in a large cool bag, like Koolio, the options are endless.

Forget the Power Rangers or My Little Pony (or whatever the kids like these days) designs, the lunch bag is not just for kids. You don’t want your roll getting squashed in your gym bag, so why not try a lunch tin, like Boxed, great for carting to work or taking with you on an outdoor pursuit. The aluminium box will ensure your lunch stays intact and pristine, plus it’s far more manly than a Hello Kitty plastic version with matching flask!

If it’s the condition of your beloved lunch you worry about, then why not try using a cool bag as your lunch box? The cool bag will make sure your food is fresh in transportation and you can then put it in the fridge for further chilling. Our Kool lunch bag is perfectly sized for work dining and will easily fit in most fridges.

As well as curbing the fast food intake, you can save a fortune by canny shopping and making up daily packed meals. Instead of smartie sandwiches, cooking healthy, large volume meals like soup or vegetable curry are ideal as these will last you and the family for a few days and work out far cheaper in the long run. For healthy kids’ lunchbox ideas have a look at some recipes here.

We asked you what your favourite packed lunch goodies were, so here is what you lot all crave most from your coveted afternoon meal…

Top 5 Lunchtime Heroes

1. The mighty sandwich- most popular were cooked meat and cheese savoury varieties

2. Cakes

3. Fruit- bananas scored particularly highly

4. Last night’s dinner

5. Pasta

Didn’t have a chance to vote? Well, why not leave a comment and tell us your lunchtime favourites?

Trespass Wheeled BagsDoes your child carry everything including the kitchen sink to school every day? Do they whinge about how heavy their Maths textbook is as they lob it on the hall floor and question what really is the point of Maths anyway? Well, they could just be right (probably not about the Maths).

According to a recent study published by the Archives of Disease in Childhood, heavy backpacks can increase the risk of back pain in children which can follow them into adulthood. Professor Alan Silman, medical director of Arthritis Research UK, agrees stating:

Previous research supported by Arthritis Research UK has shown that heavy schoolbags, sometimes as much as a quarter of a child’s weight, can be harmful to a child’s back especially as the skeleton grows and develops.

The study, which was conducted in Galicia, Spain, found that nearly two thirds of children were carrying more than 10% of their body weight in their school bags every day. Of these, the risk of back pain was 50% higher.

So with all the textbooks, folders, P.E. kit electronic equipment and food the kids are carting around, the question is what can be done to prevent this from happening to our offspring?

Obviously wearing comfy backpacks over two shoulders to evenly distribute weight is a start and having padded, adjustable straps can’t hurt. But the time to revolutionise the schoolbag could be at hand with the introduction of the rolling backpack as a pain-free alternative.

The rolling backpack can be worn over the shoulders as well as wheeled around like luggage with adjustable pull handles. Not only will your child have a poker straight back, but they will also be rivalling the chic stylings of their European counterparts, where bags with wheels are very a la mode right now. Our Rollo and Eldorado rolling rucksacks are the perfect size for school and look the part too.

So let them study all the important stuff without the fear of back trouble and with a little less to moan about. Who knows, maybe they are budding Mathematicians in the making?

Man walking in Scotland

Few places in the world can rival the scenic upland walking routes offered by Arran, Glencoe and Torridon.

And for that very reason, the footpath networks require a great deal of maintenance to counteract the thousands of walking boot prints that are left on them each year.

But help is at hand as the Scottish Mountaineering Trust (SMT) has just approved a £30,000 grant to aid the Mountains for People Footpath Project being run by the National Trust for Scotland.

The four year initiative started in April 2009 and, upon completion, will have restored 18 miles worth of remote upland walking routes to their former glory.

Bob Brown, Mountains for People project manager, commented:

Our work on this project has tackled some of the most challenging mountain path problems on Trust land, from the summit of Sgurr Mhor in Torridon to the top of Cir Mhor on Arran.

From glen to summit, the project has been able to restore and redress some of the most eroded paths the Trust manages. None of this would have been possible without the help of our funders.

At Trespass we are avid supporters of all outdoor activities and the projects that improve them. The grant means not only will the paths be safer and more accessible for people to get out and enjoy them, but it will protect the fragile mountain landscapes from being damaged. So there’s nothing to stop you getting out and appreciating them this summer.
