1. A hoodie goes with (pretty much) everything! Jeans, PJs, shorts, beach wear, joggers, casual dresses…maybe avoid wearing with formal wear.

2. It will keep you cosy, especially if it’s a super fancy Sherpa-lined beauty like Louisa.

3. You instantly appear more sporty/athletic than you may actually be. Case in point, the girl with the cheesy Dorito tan in her pyjama bottoms, Ugg boots and hoodie at the 24 hour supermarket at midnight with a basket full of Pringles and fizzy juice may actually be on her way to a late night gym session, or may have just ran 10k…you should feel bad for judging her.

4. You are totally down with the kids, even if merely using the phrase ‘down with the kids’ means that you are, in fact, not.

5. If you’re a girl, stealing your boyfriend/husband/male friend’s means an extra comfy, over-sized layer to hibernate in. If you are male however, stealing a ladies’ hoodie probably won’t have the same effect.

6. You can hide your face in your hood should the need arise.

7. They make the perfect couch-lazing attire. Slightly more sophisticated than a dressing gown and makes the transition from napping to nipping out to the shops seamless.

8. If you like them baggy, they hide a LOT!

9. Wear it outdoors as a warm layer, with a gilet or waterproof jacket, and get extra cosiness for your noddle.

10. Oh, and they protect your luscious locks!

Embrace your inner hoodlum, not in a criminal sense, and let us know if you have any other reasons to heart your hoodie in the comments below…

When you work for a company like Trespass, there really is no excuse not to get involved in some type of snow or outdoor sport. So a few of us from head office thought it was high time we got out and tested some of the gear and learned to snowboard.

We chose the spectacular Glencoe Mountain Resort on one of the most gorgeous sunny Sundays to start our lessons bright and early at 9am. As luck would have it we hired boards from Ski ‘n’ Boardroom in Glasgow and were given Trespass ones, so we were all pretty much head to toe edge (see what I did there?) in the brand.

Starting off with the basics of holding the boards right, getting on chair lifts and sorting out and putting on bindings we mastered things pretty quickly. I am ashamed to say that I was the first to let my board slide half way down the hill though!

Standing up proved a bit trickier, but we got there in the end, and then came speeding down the slope without being able to stop…good times! Getting to grips with the (non-existent) brakes of a snowboard is not an easy task; if you’re going down toe or heel edge to start with you need to distribute weight evenly between your feet which is a lot harder than it sounds. So your bottom becomes the go-to method of not crashing into people or fences! You also have to be good at squatting, as sticking your bum out like you’re sitting on a chair is how you come to a stop. Good for the old thighs though!

Most of the group wore a base layer top and bottoms, a jumper, ski jacket and pants plus a good few pairs of ski socks. But you do warm up, especially if walking back up the hill with your board, so you should definitely have layers that you can shove in a bag that you leave at side of slope as you don’t want anything to affect your balance when learning.

Good waterproof ski gloves are essential and maybe a thinner pair that work with a touchscreen phone so you can take pics while gliding gracefully down, although probably not recommended! Watch out for cooling right down if you stop for a burger or pie, as it’s so much harder to get started again if your toes and fingers feel like little blocks of ice.

By the end of a long day (about half 3!) we had reached the dizzying height of diagonal side slipping, where you aim to traverse the slope in a zigzag fashion putting weight on one foot and then the other to change direction. The only thing I will say is that getting up on the board when you are totally knackered, becomes a real challenge and by the end your derrière is a bit sensitive so if you to start to struggle it’s time to hang up your boots for the day.

So we did. And ate some lovely cake before heading home to the couch for a more relaxing evening.

Next time…we’ll be attempting to change direction and hopefully start to turn. But I’ll definitely be investing in a pair of impact shorts so I won’t have to walk like a cowboy in the office on the Monday!

We are thrilled to reveal that Trespass is to be the Official Provider of Casual Uniforms for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games…and we can’t wait!!

The Games are to commence next July, with athletes from all parts of the Commonwealth competing in a total of 17 sports. Some of our favourite athletes have expressed interest in competing, including multi-gold medallist Jessica Ennis, cyclist Sir Chris Hoy and maybe even Mr Bolt if we’re lucky!

Trespass is designing and manufacturing casual uniforms for up to 15,000 volunteers, the team accompanying the Queen’s Baton Relay and members of the Games workforce. But the first look at these designs won’t be unveiled until later this year.

As part of the official launch, an army of mannequins donned Glasgow 2014 and Trespass branded t-shirts and posed with some of the important faces behind the sponsorship.

And, despite being surrounded by a legion of faceless models, everyone involved seemed completely unfazed! Have a look at this You Tube video to see what the mannequins got up to after the cameras stopped rolling…

In the lead up to the Games, we will keep you updated on all the latest developments and post lots of sporty blogs to get you all in the mood…you don’t have to just be a spectator!

Please share using the buttons below or comment if you’re as excited as we are!

Joy was the order of the day last Friday, as our £1000 Trespass voucher winner, Reverend Tim Gomm, visited the Street store to spend his winnings.

The Reverend, Team Rector of the Parish of Portland, was the lucky winner of the latest in-store email signup competition and came with his family to choose £1000 worth of gear.

The charitable Reverend, who previously worked for 20 years as a youth worker, spent part of his winnings on camping gear for under privileged children. He said:

I will be buying tents, sleeping bags, mats, and cooking equipment, with some of the £1000 prize, so that I can take young people away for camping trips, where they will learn self-confidence, and increase their self-esteem.

And to prove no good deed goes unpunished, the Reverend and his family were then treated to a free lunch at Frankie & Benny’s (also in Clarks Village Shopping Centre) courtesy of Trespass Street Store Manager Steve Jordan.

Congratulations Tim! We hope you put all your lovely new outdoor gear to good use…and you manage to fit it all in your house!

We love to travel the globe spreading the word about Trespass and this year is no different. Kicking things off with a bang, as always, we jumped the pond and spent some time in the U.S. Here’s some of the highlights from the two shows brought to you by our very own Nicky MacEwan

Just back from fifteen days and two very successful trade shows in the States.

This was our first year with a new stand which had a few teething problems and I had no idea how long it would take to dress 24 mannequins.  I don’t want to say that women are more awkward but you had to remove one leg and both arms to get these ladies dressed – I was not impressed!  The long set up was totally worth it and the new stand looked amazing.

The Outdoor Show in Salt Lake City in Utah is our quieter show but we were at least twice as busy as last year and the customers were loving the new designs.  With snow on the ground outside and temperatures as low as -14, people were definitely in the mood for looking at ski wear!

The SnowSports Show in Denver is historically a busier show for us and this year was no exception.  I’ve been doing these U.S. shows for 7 years and I don’t remember a show that’s been busier!  This may have been due in some part to our participation in the Fashion Show the night before the show started – our outfits looked great and we had lots of new customers who came to see us on the first morning saying they had noticed our gear the previous night on the catwalk and were eager to see the rest of the collection.

All four days of the show were hectic and on Sunday we were happy to hear the final yodel from Karl Obermeyer that closes the show.  We packed everything up and waved goodbye to the big blue bear for another year.

Thanks Nicky…we love the big bear statue peering in through the glass.

Stay classy, till next time Denver!

January is here…again. ‘Oh dear’ is the sentiment most feel the first week back at work after the Christmas holidays. A month or so of festive over-indulgence, mixed with a serious lack of any type of physical activity and extensive couch lounging, has us feeling pretty lethargic and majorly guilty in the New Year (doesn’t it every year?).

So, aside from trying a major detox for the month of January, giving up half way through and deciding your original diet of only one takeaway a week was totally fine, how else can you combat your sluggish couch demon?

This could well be the time to dust off the cobwebs and get outdoors for some (very) fresh British air. Why not try out a new sport and start 2013 with a bang, and very likely a few achy limbs…you’ll feel all the better for it!

Spoketacular

Last year cycling saw a surge in popularity following the Olympics and Wiggo’s success, so surely a few of you got a shiny new bike from Santa? Or were at least inspired to dust off the one in the garage? If so, when better to start your new healthy regime than in January?

Cycling to work regularly is a brilliant way to get in shape and save some pennies. Just be sure to wear a high visibility jacket on the roads…and of course a helmet! If a daily cycle isn’t possible, then a weekend trip is a great way to see some of our lovely countryside and escape the stresses of city life, plus you get to pack a picnic (who doesn’t love a picnic?). Ideal.

Powder Fun

If you are trying something new, why not go the whole hog and get out on the slopes? Skiing or snowboarding lessons are a fun way to spend your weekends if you get your friends/family involved. Dry slopes or indoor real snow slopes, like Snow Factor or Sno! Zone, offer reasonably priced introductory lessons whether you’re learning in a group or by yourself.

Get ready for a few bumps, bruises and tired legs…but it’s all worth it, you’ll be a pro by Easter and planning a holiday in the French Alps with all your ski/snowboard friends for next season.

Walking Wonderland

Discover the spectacular views the great British countryside has to offer, and get outdoors this year! This is the perfect time to start walking, you’ll probably get to see some snow-topped hills and use that expensive new camera you got for Christmas. Just make sure to wrap up and get layers on, as it might be cold when you set off, but you’ll soon warm up and want to ditch a fleece or the like.

Surf’s Up

If you’re brave enough, why not take the plunge and try surfing or open water swimming? Great workout for the arms, legs and core muscles…you just have to get used to the chilly UK waters.

As long as you are kitted out with a good wetsuit, a full length wetsuit is probably advisable at this time of year, and you take a change of clothes that you can throw on once you dry off you’ll be onto a winner.

An extra bonus is you can show off in your bikini/shorts when summer eventually comesand you have plenty of tekkers on the waves…Baywatch ahoy!

Become A Gym Bunny!

Of course, you don’t have to actually go outside to enjoy a new sport or get fit and sometimes the cold and dark can be a bit off-putting. It’s no surprise then, that you’ll find your gym mega busy at the start of the year. But if you can muster up the motivation to go and continue going even when others drop off, you’ll be sorted and you’ll obviously want to flaunt your awesome new gym gear

So get outside, do something a bit different and blast those flabby Christmas glutes, and your 2013 will be a massive success…we promise!

From Top Left: Thirst flask, Prednost Walking Boots, Dorman Ski Gloves, Skippo Fleece, Midnight Down Slippers, Argyle Quilted Jacket, Zumba Backpack, Valeas Walking Poles, Deavne Ski Jacket, Carrar Ski Socks, Allos Hat, Yetti Snow Boots

Dads, sons, grandpas, uncles, brothers, husbands or boyfriends…we all have one to buy for this Christmas and they can be notoriously tricky to choose for. So here’s a few ideas to get you started.

We know that Dad’s love socks, so they will definitely enjoy a cosy pair of ski or walking socks this winter. The fact that they are more technical than the average sock, made with specialised fabrics and padding, will make him appreciate them even more!

If the male you are buying for is into his snow sports, then an awesome piece of equipment may just be the perfect present. A super bright ski jacket or pants are always a good idea, but make sure you know what colours he’d be seen in first! For a stocking filler a smart pair of goggles or ski gloves could be ideal.

If your old (or young) man spends his time outdoors perhaps a pair of walking poles or hydration backpack will be just what he needs to kick-start his New Year regime. Nice new walking boots may not make him walk faster, but if they are comfy they will get him going out more often.

For the younger, more fashion conscious males, a cosy casual jacket could be just the ticket. Our quilted Argyle jacket is great for country walks on cold days, plus they look pretty sharp too. Or why not get him a lovely toasty fleece, with on-trend contrast zips?

And last but definitely not least, we can’t forgot grandpa!  If he prefers to spend the winter months indoors, a cosy pair of down slippers will have him snug as a bug throughout the holidays.

So, if you have several men to shop for this Christmas, you know where to go…ho ho ho!

Top Row- Women’s Ladna Down Jacket, Middle Row- Manhattan Insulated Jacket, Bottom Row- 3-in-1 Alissa Jacket

Michelle, Imports Team

I recently bought the Alissa jacket and I am very happy with it!  a) I do a lot of dog walking b) I live in Scotland so weather is not that great and c) it’s winter out there!!!

This jacket keeps me warm but the style also blocks out all the wind around the neck area and it’s handy that I can remove the hood when it’s not required.

A good jacket and well worth the money!

Cecile, Sales Team

When we got hit by some really cold weather in December 2010, I just knew my normal coat would simply not do. That’s when I decided to buy a Ladna down coat and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made!

It’s the warmest coat I’ve ever had and is very comfy. The length is perfect as it keeps the legs warm too. The 2-way zip is also very practical.

The only downside is you don’t want to take it off!

Francine, Web Team

Manhattan  is a great jacket for the money! It keeps me really warm and cosy on freezing outdoor walks. I was also very impressed with how dry it kept me while I was out in heavy rain. I love that you can remove the hood and change the look for nicer weather.

This jacket doesn’t feel too bulky but definitely locks in the heat in freezing weather. I really like the longer length style of this jacket, it definitely offers better coverage from the rain and keeps my legs nice and toasty too.

I’ve compared this jacket to others on the high street and I couldn’t find anything as technical for the price. Overall it’s a brilliant buy and a jacket that you’ll be able to wear season after season.

1. If you’re reading this you probably live in the UK. It rains A LOT in Britain. You are especially unlucky if you live in the Western Highlands of Scotland which reportedly gets over 3 metres (!!!) of rain per year. Wellies, lifevests and rubber dinghies ahoy!

2. They are good for your health. Not a cure for illness but a preventative method. I.e. if you wear waterproof trousers/gaiters when out walking you can avoid the rising damp effect and lessen the chance of catching a nasty cold.

3. You can live a normal life and continue day-to-day activities despite a whole rainbow of dramatic weather warnings.

4. You will always have brilliant hair. FACT.

5. They will make you super fit. No, buying an ultra-high spec waterproof jacket will not automatically give you biceps like Arnie (or Jodie Marsh). But if you have a lovely breathable cycle/sport jacket, then you will have no excuses to get outdoors and EXERCISE.

6. Goal posts?

7. You can avoid embarrassing, wet, white-shirt scenarios. Or just don’t wear white t-shirts.

8. Stops your mum bemoaning that, ‘you never wear appropriate clothing for this weather’. Or the popular, ‘you’ll catch a chill dressed like that’ warnings.

9. If your water goes off suddenly, you can tackle those pesky mains without ruining your indoor clothes.

10. As Sir Rannulph Fiennes says, ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing’.

Louisa Women’s Hoodie

Gillian, Web Photographer

‘I love my Louisa hoodie it goes with everything (or at least that’s what I tell myself!). It’s so warm and the fleece inside makes it feel like a rabbit, or another equally cute and fluffy animal, is hugging you.

At such a great price for a casual fashion forward piece it’s a steal…that I have already recommended to my friends.

Might even get it in blue!!’

Treacle Women’s Casual Trainers

Roslyn, Web Team

‘I tried a pair of Treacle sneakers on while in search of other products for the website, and instantly loved them.

The fit and shape of the navy ones, are way better than some cannot-be-named (but you know who I’m talking about) brand’s trainers. They are really lightweight, and there are no ridges on the inside that could give you blisters. I would even go so far as to say I could wear them without socks!

The shape is neat, and I think they make your feet look nice and dainty! Plus the navy pair go with most things, jeans, tights, shorts etc.

Brilliant value for money, and at such a low price you could buy a couple of pairs or even the Danii boots to muck around in. They would also be pretty cool if customised…’
